“Is change really inevitable or will it be overpowered by willpower?”

The book “Our Field Trip – Pg – 13” by Cornel A. Keeler was exhibited by self-publishing company ReadersMagnet at the 2022 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference & Exhibition, which was held last June 24-27, 2022, at Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington DC, USA.

“Our Field Trip – Pg – 13” discusses the changes in an environment and how one can either be a victim or a beneficiary of the influences of a new and different environment.

The story is narrated by Wendell Carter from the point of view of the author himself. Wendell is a teacher at East Orange Elementary School and is in the second year of his teaching. As someone who is born and raised in Louisiana, living in East Orange County feels completely different for Wendell.

In the first part of the book, he emphasizes the differences in the culture, food, delicacies, eating habits, and even the way of living of the people in East Orange County and Louisiana. But these differences made him appreciate each place more for its uniqueness.

The author explains, “I believe the differences in the two cultures are created by the differences in the type of environment that each must live in. Even though different, each environment is good if adapted to.”

Each person has their own way of dealing with changes. Each individual has the willpower to decide whether they want to be in that environment or place temporarily or permanently. This book imparts some realizations that can be eye-opening for most people, especially those who are looking forward to stay in a new environment for a long time.
