Alcatel-Lucent CEO Patricia Russo delivered opening keynote at CeBIT

Patricia Russo, Chief Executive Officer for Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) delivered yesterday a keynote speech to open the 2007 CeBIT Fair in Hannover, Germany. The speech was part of the opening ceremony, which included German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Minister President of Lower Saxony Christian Wulf, EU Commissioner Viviane Reding and other dignitaries.



Emphasizing themes of this year’s CEBIT, Patricia Russo’s comments centered on success in the ICT sector requiring imagination, the right business platforms and the right environment.



In terms of imagination, she highlighted the view that it is about creativity and daring to dream. It means freeing minds of perceived limitations and inspiring others to take a fresh look at the world. Her comments also illustrated that imagination leads to innovation, which is an evolutionary process, it sparks other ideas, and in the end requires the necessary resources and partners to put these ideas into practice.



This final point clearly demonstrates that imagination, leading to innovative ideas is predicated on the need for the right business platforms. Within the framework of today’s changing competitive landscape, three factors were identified as key to developing a strong business platform: strategic innovation focused on the end-user, effective partnerships and investment in the necessary resources.



The final piece of the equation needed for success in the ICT sector is the right environment. This includes regulations that encourage fair competition, standards organizations that deliver clarity for those involved, and an educational system that provides skilled employees for the sector.
