The year is 1857, and slavery in the United States is as ordinary as breathing. Blacks were considered filthy, stupid, and lower than animals. Polly Wellington, around the same age, helps Hattie get well again. They soon become fast friends; however, their undeniable bond gets a slave catcher, Mr. Kirby, suspicious over time. This forces the family to make a drastic decision that will ultimately change Polly and Hattie’s lives forever.

Ever since grade school, there were two subjects Kathleen Olson loved: writing and history. In “Come Run with Me,” she gets the gift to combine both. The characters of Polly and Hattie were easy to come by as Kathleen had a best friend who was always getting her into things. Kathleen is a wife, mother, grandmother, and world traveler who lives with her husband of 57 years, Tom, in northeastern Illinois. Of course, she loves to write, but she also enjoys cross-stitching, reading, and doing research for her next book.
