The book “Wagon Train Orphan” by David Dockter was featured at ReadersMagnet Book Confab last October 28-30, 2022, held at Tribeca, New York, and also displayed at the New York Library Association (NYLA) 2022 Annual Conference & Trade Show on November 3-4, 2022 at Saratoga Springs, New York.

“Wagon Train Orphan” centers around the life of Mike Fagan, a young orphan who lost his parents at an early age. His mother died when he was still six while his father was killed in an Indian massacre. Ever since his father died, Mike strives to survive everyday together with his dog Wolf. They were the only survivors after the tragic incident that he and his father was involved.

The book started when Mike and his father decided to migrate to California. Immediately the next day, they are all packed, and he saw the newly purchased rifles of his father that according to him, they can carry around while traveling. At an early age, he was already trained by his father how to shoot and practice loading. His training all paid off when he accurately aims and shoots the big man in one of the river pirates who is trying to get their things during the first night of their trip.

Mike and his father had a long journey. Just when they thought they will be having a peaceful exploration, things got escalated quickly, and he suddenly lost his father in a massacre.

Growing up in the West as an orphan and having nowhere to run to is hard. But Mike was determined not to be stuck in the same miserable situation forever. Instead, he works hard and continued to live through the guidance of God and his friend whom he meets along the way. Mike then successfully fulfills his father’s dream and grows into the man that he wants to be. This is a perfect read for anyone who is into rags-to-riches story plots.
