In a world of crime, danger, and notorious gangsters, you could wake up one day with a death threat. Author, James Mitchum Oates takes his readers to the dark side of Los Angeles through his book, “A Classic Tale from the Streets.”

James Mitchum Oates is an American author from Kansas City. He received his Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice at Penn Valley Community College. Not long after that, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice: Corrections. Being a writer is his long-time dream. In the book’s Foreword, he even mentions the trial-and-error of his writing career, and how he eventually found his voice as a writer. Now an author of eight books, he reminds his readers that the challenges that life presents us are learning experiences.

That said, “A Classic Tale from the Streets” is an example of the result of James embracing life’s challenges. The book is a contemporary fiction revolving around Dan, a student of Robeson High School— the worst school in all of Los Angeles. It was a typical day… or so he thought, because on that day, a fight broke in between his brother and Michael, with Michael spurting a death threat by the end of it all.

Normally, death threats coming from a high schooler isn’t something to be worried about. But Michael was no normal high schooler; he was a gang member of the Blood— one of the most dangerous gangs in L.A. Everything goes deep into tragedy from there.

With Dan’s family getting killed, he joins the Crips, the toughest rival of the Blood. Soon, he becomes a criminal. His life has flung far from the life he lived before. Will he ever get a chance for redemption?
