Carrefour and STEF have opened a logistics hub in Rungis designed to speed up growth of its home delivery service in the Ile-de-France region and develop same-day delivery across Paris and its suburbs. Carrefour has entrusted its partner STEF with all of its logistics operations (order acceptance, storage and preparation).

The opening of the new Rungis hub will shore up the Carrefour Group’s leadership position on the home delivery market in France.

The Carrefour livré chez vous (“Carrefour delivers to you”) service is already available in more than 20,000 towns in France and 74% of the total population has access to it.

With this new logistics location capable of preparing up to 3000 orders daily, Carrefour is speeding up home delivery in the Ile-de-France region to meet growing consumer demand. The hub already serves some 2.2 million residents spread over 91 towns across the region.

And Carrefour will also be able to use the site – which is less than 20 km from Paris – to meet customers’ new expectations regarding shorter delivery times: it offers a same-day delivery service. The Carrefour Group’s aim is to enable as many people as possible to access a same-day full-shop delivery service in France.

A fantastic opportunity for new jobs across the Rungis area, the warehouse currently employs 100 people, 80 of whom have been hired on permanent contracts working in logistics jobs. The STEF Group wants to hire 100 people between now and the end of 2022.

“This warehouse in southern Paris will help us meet strong demand for our Carrefour livré chez vous delivery service. At the same time, we are going to increase the availability of our same-day full-shop delivery service – an increasingly important criterion for our customers which makes all the difference” said Elodie Perthuisot, the Carrefour Group’s Executive Director of E-Commerce, Data and Digital Transformation.

“We are proud of the trust that Carrefour has placed in us to help it support its e-commerce growth in the Ile-de-France region. Opening this new site will extend and further strengthen the long-term partnership between our two groups which is very much focused on services and developing solutions to suit new types of consumer behaviour. It is also evidence our expertise in e-commerce logistics – a complex environment which involves storing and delivering foodstuffs at no fewer than four different temperatures. To ensure the success of this project, STEF has hired 80 permanent employees and put together an integration programme so they can provide Carrefour customers with the best quality of service” said Bertrand Bompas, Deputy Executive Director France for STEF.

The logistics hub – technical specifications:

  • A surface area of more than 15,000 m² with 44 dispatch platforms used for home delivery
  • Multi-temperature site (four temperatures, including ambient, fresh and frozen) able to store 15,000 different products, 33% of which are own-brand products (thus far).
  • Able to prepare nearly 185,000 items per day.
  • With this new hub, Carrefour’s aim is to have an even richer assortment of fresh produce (particularly fruit and vegetables), and to be able to offer an additional premium range of meat, fish and personal hygiene products.
