The Rafa Nadal Foundation Has Been Present at the Fit for Life Workshop “Empowering Girls and Women Through Sports” Given by Unesco

A workshop was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris to discuss good practices, data gaps and needs related to the empowerment of girls and young women in and through sport.

This workshop is organized within the framework of UNESCO’s Fit for Life initiative, which designs smart investments in sport as a driver of broad social results.

Gender inequality is a critical problem that is deeply embedded in society. Today, girls and young women (ages 5-30) continue to experience educational inequality, exposure to violence, and unequal access to sport and physical activity, among other forms of discrimination.

The “Life Fitness Workshop: Empowering Girls and Young Women through Sport” has provided a unique opportunity to share good practices and discuss needs related to empowering girls and women in and through sport. The results of the discussions will inform the development of the next phases of Fit for Life, including the world sport baseline study and national implementation plans.

The workshop is one of several milestones on the way to the upcoming Seventh International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS VII), which will take place from March 14-17, 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Rafa Nadal Foundation had the pleasure of participating in this space to discuss and develop action plans to empower girls and women through sport.

Our deputy director, Jose Ruiz, shared a table with different stakeholders from the government, the private sector, civil society and the sports movement, with the aim of debating and outlining a collective action plan to achieve this goal.
