“It’s amazing having this accomplishment and knowing, hoping, that this will help some people as other poetry books have helped me.” Cheyenne Peterson

How best to process one’s emotions and experiences, particularly with regards to the affairs of the heart, than through poetry? Cheyenne Peterson did just that, having published a book of free verse poems titled “Bodies of Water” (ReadersMagnet; 2022).

‘Bodies of Water’ is a poetry book that talks about heartbreak and how to fall in love with yourself,” says Peterson on an Instagram post. The author takes the reader along the journey into the far regions of her mind and the deepest depths of her soul, where a voice reveals her unabashed emotions.

The book is divided into seven parts: “Folly River,” “Illicit Falls,” “Trivial Pond,” “Insipid Stream,” “Insipid Stream,” “Pariah Delta,” and “Deluges That Feed All.” Peterson dishes her verses as effortless as the water flow, drawing the reader closer and as smooth and calm as the water surrounding her.

Within “Bodies of Water,” metaphors and allegories of love are present. Each poem is a rollercoaster ride of emotions and human drama. Emotions in every poem come as strong as the waves and graceful as the water that follows, allowing the reader to visualize the poetic imagery with constancy and calmness of mind.
