"Dearest Kitty": Anne Frank: Then and Now impressively presents the life of Anne Frank coming from a Christian standpoint.

In this unique take on the life of celebrated diarist Anne Frank, Fr. Ken Ekdahl shares his Christian perspective in the book, “Dearest Kitty: Anne Frank: Then and Now.” A one-of-a-kind non-fiction book, the story’s idea was inspired by a fateful meeting between Ken Ekdahl and a mysterious man in Amsterdam.

While on tour in Amsterdam, Holland, Ken and his friend, Mike Burke, stopped by to dine across the street from the Anne Frank Foundation (Fonds) Annex gift shop when an enigmatic elderly gentleman approached their table and sat down with them. During the conversation, Ken and his friend were intrigued by their unexpected visitor, who started talking about the site and the foundation. When the man stood up to leave, took their receipts, and handed them his card, things took a surprising and wonderful turn for the author when they read what was written on the card: Otto H. Frank, father of Anne Frank.

With Ken Ekdahl’s background – entering the Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Massachusetts, in the fall of 1986 and being ordained on May 18, 1991, for the Diocese of Trenton – the book “Dearest Kitty” touched on the narrative of Anne Frank from a religious outlook.

Annelies Marie “Anne” Frank was a Jewish girl who consistently documented her life in a diary while she and her family hid away in an attic during the Nazi persecution. The discovery and publication of her diary in 1947 under “The Diary of a Young Girl” gave this albeit ordinary girl a posthumous recognition that echoed through the years to come.

Many kinds of literature talk about Anne Frank’s life, and Fr. Ken Ekdahl’s book stood out as a unique and wonderful take on the life of a young girl and her diary.
