CDP response to UN High Level Expert Group on Net-Zero Emissions Commitments of Non-State Entities recommendations

Sharm El Sheikh – WEBWIRE

In response to publication of report of the UN High Level Expert Group on Net-Zero Emissions Commitments of Non-State Entities, Nicolette Bartlett, Chief Impact Officer at CDP said: “The recommendations set out by the High-Level Expert group should serve as the operating system going forward. They underline the importance of informed ambitious action being fully, comprehensively, and consistently reported. They outline the true scope of what a company pathway to decarbonization must include.

CDP notes that this not only enhances our existing approach to disclosure and action, but our direction of travel as well, as we continue to collaborate with our partners in the wider ecosystem of framework and standard setters. We will continue, in line with these recommendations, to ask companies, cities and financial services to develop and disclose science-based targets, high-quality transition plans and support the development of evidence-based policy and regulation.

Robust, science-based targets for every non-state actor are critical to driving the net-zero transition. As a founding member of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), it is positive to see the SBTi recommended as gold standard for target setting.

These recommendations focus on alignment and harmonization. They are perfectly timed as these efforts are already in motion, as just today CDP announced that we will incorporate the ISSB climate disclosure standard, the long-awaited global baseline standard for financial markets, into our global disclosure system. Further, CDP and the Climate Data Steering Committee (CDSC) announced a collaboration where CDP will then provide the foundational data to the Net-Zero Public Data Utility. These efforts will serve to further drive forward the High-Level Expert Group’s recommendations"
