World’s Oldest Professions Serve Nevada in Very Different Ways; American Payroll Association Concerned About Heidi Fleiss Announcement

LAS VEGAS, Nev., June 14 -- The White House Las Vegas(r), a state-of-the-art multi-media training and meeting facility in Las Vegas, announced today that it hopes that it won’t be confused with a newly proposed business venture of the infamous Hollywood Madam, Heidi Fleiss.

According to recent press reports, the once-famous madam hopes to build a brothel in Nevada to look like the Washington, D.C. landmark and name it the “White House.” The announcement came as a surprise to officials from the American Payroll Association (APA), which operates “The White House Las Vegas,” a well-known, trademarked meeting and training facility in Las Vegas.

“You can imagine our concern,” said Dan Maddux, executive director of the American Payroll Association (APA). “We certainly don’t want people confusing our world-class meeting facility with her proposed brothel.”

APA’s The White House Las Vegas(r) bears a striking resemblance to the White House in Washington, D.C., and is already well-known in Las Vegas. APA representatives worry that its branding and image will suffer if Fleiss’ plans move forward, noting that it would be extremely confusing and bad for business if Ms. Fleiss used anything close to the registered name already in use by the APA.

“While we can see the humor in this situation, we certainly don’t want any confused people calling us about rates and such. What are we supposed to do, clarify exactly what service they are calling about up front?” said Maddux. “Frankly, our rates for services are probably a lot cheaper than Heidi’s anyway.”

The American Payroll Association established the meeting venue close to the Las Vegas Convention Center to provide a place for businesses to network and provide training for their clients and employees. Considered one of the best facilities in the country, The White House Las Vegas(r) is a great resource for the many thousands traveling to Las Vegas who run corporate meetings, team-building seminars, or computer-based training.

“Payroll -- the world’s second oldest profession -- already has the first and only White House in Las Vegas,” said Maddux. “We hope that the APA’s White House Las Vegas(r) becomes a nationally known landmark for Nevada, but for entirely different reasons.”

The White House Las Vegas(r) facility is located directly across from the Las Vegas Convention Center, close to the Las Vegas Strip.

The meeting facility is often used by conventioneers who need a relaxing, elegant meeting place.

The White House Las Vegas(r), which opened in April 2004, is a popular venue for businesses and associations that hold meetings and training in Las Vegas. The unique site offers computer-equipped classrooms, Internet access, video-conferencing and advanced audiovisual technology for groups of 10 to 100. Spacious dining areas and a newly designed atrium can host formal or informal receptions.

The APA, a nonprofit professional association that represents over 22,000 members nationwide, hosts numerous classes and seminars related to payroll and other business management issues. In addition to the Las Vegas facility, the Association also operates a similar training center in San Antonio.
