New York, NY – WEBWIRE

The goal of NLPPW is to bring together individuals, organizations, industry, and state, tribal, and local governments to increase lead poisoning prevention awareness in an effort to reduce childhood exposure to lead.

National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW) takes place this year from October 23rd through the 29th. The week of recognition is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The goal of NLPPW is to bring together individuals, organizations, industry, and state, tribal, and local governments to increase lead poisoning prevention awareness in an effort to reduce childhood exposure to lead. This is an important task as the CDC reports that no safe blood level in children has been identified, even low levels have been shown to affect a child’s learning capacity, ability to pay attention, and academic achievement.

“The most common source of exposure for children is from lead-based paint, which was used in many homes, schools, and buildings constructed before 1978,” said Frank Selamie, President of CTSI. “Another source that has received considerable attention over the last several years is through the water children drink. A number of states now require testing of drinking water sources in schools and daycare centers. Children can even be exposed to lead from dust carried home from a parent’s job. The good news is lead poisoning is entirely preventable and CTSI proudly supports the efforts of NLPPW.”

With offices in New York and Florida that service clients nationwide, CTSI offers industrial hygiene and environmental testing, consulting, and training services for lead and lead-based paint-related projects. Their EPA lead certified risk assessors and inspectors have successfully performed thousands of projects for schools, universities, daycare centers, and other government, commercial, and institutional clients. CTSI’s services comply with the NYC Department of Health, HUD, and EPA guidelines to protect children, workers, and building occupants.
