Year One: Depop’s progress towards helping charities

WEBWIRE

Depop, the community-powered marketplace app to buy and sell unique fashion, shares its year one progress on its commitments to support charities.

In September 2021, Depop made a commitment to support the charity sector selling on Depop post the pandemic. This ties into our 2 year sustainability plan goal of promoting circularity in our community and empowering users to easily buy and sell mindfully on Depop.

This led to the launch of the Charity Seller Programme which provides charities with tools, resources, exclusive offers and personalised support to succeed on Depop. Today, hundreds of charities have joined Depop supporting a variety of fantastic causes.

Charities which have signed up include Cancer Research UK, The British Heart Foundation, Sue Ryder, Trinity Hospice plus many more. They have spoken of the impact the Charity Seller Programme has had:

Trinity Hospice

“Since launching on Depop, Royal Trinity has had a chance to showcase our amazing donations and provide a more sustainable answer to fast fashion.

The team at Depop have guided us with invaluable insights on how to expand and encouraged all our ideas which has been greatly appreciated. Our Depop continues to grow thanks to our amazing volunteer team who embraces our idea of hand picking their own curated collection! This is great development and a wonderful way to showcase the talent and knowledge our team has on ever changing fashion trends.”

Since 2021, Trinity Hospice has seen an increase in sales of 178% YoY.

Sue Ryder

“The Depop Charity Seller Programme has transformed our sales on the app, and enabled the consistent growth of our shop. Monthly challenges and the offers of free fees have helped to keep us motivated, especially as they are tailored to your own capacity. The Depop Drop was particularly impactful, with an incredible engagement that we would never have expected or achieved without that great opportunity. The support and insights offered by the Depop team are valuable, and we can’t wait to continue working with them.”

Since 2021, Sue Ryder has seen an increase in sales of 100% YoY.

Other key highlights after one year include:

  • Bulk listing tool launch - available exclusively for all verified professional sellers to help them list quicker and more efficiently.

  • Introduction of specialist category education - in the form of inventory insights and moodboards, to better help charities understand what to list and when.

  • Roll out of regular webinars - exclusive to charities, these webinars range from educational tips, ’How-To’ workshops, to updates on Depop’s Fashion Themes.

  • Charity ‘Impact Hours’ launch - an initiative led by Depop, giving our employees a chance to support charities through volunteering their time and expertise.

We are continuously looking for new charities to come and join us! Any charities looking to register a new Depop shop can email charities@depop.com to connect with a member of the team.
