Anamaria Sayre will be joining Felix Contreras as cohost on a newly reimagined Alt.Latino from NPR Music. They will focus on exploring history and cultural context through music in a conversational way, including feature stories and personal experiences of Latinx artists including Omar Apollo, Rosalía, Carla Morrison and more.

“I am so excited about adding Ana to the Alt.Latino team. Doing a weekly show for 12 years can make one lose a bit of vitality. Ana has it by the truckloads,” said Contreras. “Her taste in music has a hint of what her grandmother likes, but she’s also super tuned in to what the cousins are listening to at family fiestas. I can’t wait for the rest of the Alt.Latino familia out there to meet her!”

“Felix is a legend in the community and a dearest friend. Joining Felix as co-host of a show with such an impactful legacy is beyond meaningful for myself and my family. Learning more about la cultura through the personal stories of artists who are actively defining it, is an unparalleled experience. I feel lucky to witness the magic.’’ said Sayre.

The weekly show shifts to a new format, where Felix and Anamaria invite guests to share stories about themselves and through that about culture, heritage, and struggles of the Latinx community, with music and guests that appeal to nostalgia and cultural pride. Alt.Latino is also launching a new social media campaign with a new TikTok page, for more social media presence as well as the return of ”El Tiny" This Tiny Desk takeover event is the second in a row, with 9 concerts as part of NPR Music’s celebration of Latinx Heritage Month with more details to come.

Created in 2010 by Felix Contreras and Jasmine Garsd, Alt.Latino was one of NPRs first podcasts and radio shows to amplify Latinx artists that weren’t part of mainstream media.

The Alt.Latino radio show is currently carried by 100+ Member stations across the country. Over the past decade, Alt.Latino has examined current events, popular music, and artist narratives to offer an intersectional lens into Latinidad and reveal a nuanced world of artistry with deep cultural significance. Alt.Latino’s new mission is to bring in young listeners who are curious about exploring their culture, using music to dig into the tangled roots beneath them, learning about themselves and their families, and building a relationship with Felix Contreras and Anamaria Sayre.

We’re proud to announce State Farm® is the exclusive sponsor of NPR Music’s Tiny Desk celebration of Latinx Heritage Month.
