HBO Max continues to surprise us with its impressive DEL CINE A TU CASA franchise, a real novelty that releases the highest-grossing films from Warner Bros. and other major studios within days of their theatrical release. In this case, ELVIS, the new biopic from filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, starring Austin Butler and Oscar winner Tom Hanks, will be available on HBO MAX starting September 2.

This film traces the life of the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley (Butler), from his origins to stardom. A dynamic film, full of color, rock, and lots of dancing.

It invites you not only to learn about the exponential rise of his career, but also goes beyond that, with a deeper look at Elvis’ complex relationships with his family; his manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks); his fans; and himself.

ELVIS delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker that spans more than 20 years, from Elvis’ rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, in the context of the cultural landscape in the United States. At the center of that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in the musician’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge) with whom he has his only daughter Lisa Marie Presley.

The film, in addition to being a biopic, is a musical. Within the repertoire of Elvis Presley’s songs, there are hits such as “Burning Love”, “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, “Hound Dog” and “Unchained Melody”. Although many of the songs feature the original voice of the king, others were adapted and modernized by artists of the moment such as Måneskin, Doja Cat, Eminem, Tame Impala, among others.

The cast also includes: stage actress Helen Thomson (“Top of the Lake: China Girl,” “Rake”) who plays Elvis’ mother Gladys, Richard Roxburgh (“Moulin Rouge!,” “Breath,” “Hacksaw Ridge”) as Elvis’ father Vernon, and Olivia DeJonge (“The Visit,” “Stray Dolls”) as Priscilla Presley. Luke Bracey (“Hacksaw Ridge,” “Point Break”) as Jerry Schilling, Natasha Bassett (“Hail, Caesar!”) as Dixie Locke, David Wenham (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “Lion,” “300”) as Hank Snow, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “The High Note”) as BB King. Xavier Samuel (“Adore,” “Love & Friendship,” “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”) plays Scotty Moore, and Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Power of the Dog”) is Jimmie Rodgers Snow.

Also in the cast are Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things,” “The Broken Heart Gallery”) who plays TV director Steve Binder, along with Australian actors Leon Ford (“Gallipoli,” “The Pacific”) as Tom Diskin, Kate Mulvany (“The Great Gatsby, ”Hunters“) as Marion Keisker, Gareth Davies (”Peter Rabbit,“ ”Hunters“) as Bones Howe, Charles Grounds (”Crazy Rich Asians,“ ”Camp“) as Billy Smith, Josh McConville (”Fantasy Island“) as Sam Phillips, and Adam Dunn (”Home and Away“) as Bill Black.

To play other iconic musical artists featured in the film, Luhrmann cast singer/songwriter Yola as sister Rosetta Tharpe, model Alton Mason as Little Richard, Gary Clark Jr. as Arthur Crudup, and singer Shonka Dukureh as the recently deceased Willie Mae ”Big Mama“ Thorton.

Oscar-nominated Luhrmann (”The Great Gatsby,“ ”Moulin Rouge!“) directed from a screenplay co-written with Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce and Jeremy Doner, and with a story written by him and Jeremy Doner. The film’s producers are Luhrmann himself, Oscar winner Catherine Martin (”The Great Gatsby,“ ”Moulin Rouge!“) Gail Berman, Patrick McCormick and Schuyler Weiss. Courtenay Valenti and Kevin McCormick served as executive producers.

The director’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Mandy Walker (”Mulan,“ ”Australia“), Oscar-winning production designer and costume designer Catherine Martin (”The Great Gatsby,“ ”Moulin Rouge! “), production designer Karen Murphy (”A Star Is Born“), editors Matt Villa (”The Great Gatsby,“ ”Australia“) and Jonathan Redmond (”The Great Gatsby“), Oscar-nominated visual effects supervisor Thomas Wood (”Mad Max: Fury Road“), music supervisor Anton Monsted (”Australia,“ ”Moulin Rouge!“) and composer Elliott Wheeler (”The Get Down").

Presented by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Bazmark, Jackal Group production, a Baz Luhrmann film, ELVIS arrives on HBO Max on September 2.
