T-Com launch of commercial IPTV service in Slovakia enabled by Alcatel-Lucent
Following the 2006 contract award to provide Slovak Telekom, a.s. with an end-to-end IPTV solution, Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that the carrier, a member of the Deutsche Telekom group, reached a significant market milestone with the recent launch of its commercial IPTV service.
Marketed under the carrier’s Magio suite of services, Slovakia’s leading telecommunications service provider now offers customers a complete triple play package (IPTV, high speed Internet and IP telephony), based on Alcatel-Lucent’s IP-based broadband access network infrastructure, comprehensive services integration solution, and end-to-end video solution, which is based on the Microsoft TV® IPTV Edition software platform. With MagioTV, customers in Slovakia can now receive broadcast TV, video on demand (VOD), and personal video recorder (PVR) functionality.
“Our Magio package offers Slovak Telekom customers the complete triple play — IPTV, high-speed Internet and IP telephony — in a single package,” said Ruediger Schulz, COO of Slovak Telekom. “Our modern infrastructure is also capable of delivering a range of user-friendly features like an intuitive electronic program guide, one-touch recording, instant channel change, multiple picture in picture, parental control features and the ability to pause and rewind live TV.”
“The success of Slovak Telecom’s service launch illustrates Alcatel-Lucent’s ability to help carriers manage the cost and complexity associated with large scale network transformation projects, while delivering a superior user-centric entertainment experience for consumers,” said Marc Rouanne, president of Alcatel-Lucent’s convergence activities. “Slovak Telecom’s deployment of its triple play offering marks a significant milestone in an industry that is moving at an extremely fast pace due to accelerated innovation, technology and industry momentum.”
Alcatel-Lucent is a world leader in both IPTV and Mobile TV, having already enabled TV, video and music services for more than 110 fixed and mobile service providers around the world. The network infrastructure supporting Slovak Telecom’s triple play services includes the Alcatel-Lucent 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM), the industry’s most deployed IP access platform for triple play services. Selected by more than 125 service providers worldwide over the past two years, and with more than 123 million DSL lines shipped to date, Alcatel-Lucent remains the uncontested global market leader in broadband access.
