Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW), a global supplier of scientific laboratory and drug discovery products for more than 90 years, today announced its 2007 Scientific Seminar Series. The live, web-based presentations will be co-sponsored by the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) and provide attendees with information on the industry’s latest innovations and applications. The series will also deliver tips, best practices and proven techniques used by leading researchers worldwide. Additionally, to supplement Corning’s ongoing initiatives highlighting the industry’s 100th year anniversary of cell culture, this year’s series will feature several seminars that look back at the history of cell culture, the associated technology advancements, leading researchers and major milestones.

Corning scientists will present the complimentary seminars using the latest webcast technology, enabling attendees to participate from their office or lab, and engage in a Q&A session at the end of each presentation. New seminars will be periodically added throughout the year and all webinars will be recorded and posted for researchers to download and play at their convenience. Sample topics include: “Growing Happier Cells,” “Life and Death In Vitro - The Evolution of Techniques for Measuring Growth and Toxicity in Cell Cultures” and “Using Frozen vs. Continuously Cultured Cells for HTS.”

Since its inception four years ago, a total of nearly 5,000 researchers have participated in the Corning-led sessions. According to a survey completed by 2006 attendees, 90 percent rated the seminar as excellent or good. One attendee specifically commented that he uses the seminar series as a training tool for new employees and estimated that they have saved his company more than $24,000 annually in training costs.

“As a leader in the life sciences industry we feel a certain responsibility to facilitate dialogue and provide new and relevant information to researchers and our customers that enables them to maximize their time and results in the lab,” said Maryanne DeChambeau, targeted marketing manager, Corning Life Sciences. “We are pleased to be able to offer this year’s seminar in conjunction with co-sponsor ATCC and are confident that attendees will again receive the high-quality information they have grown accustomed to during the past three series.”
