Massachusetts Executive Office of Transportation Selects Orion’s OnPoint Solution

Orion Technology Inc.’s OnPoint Professional web-GIS solution has been selected by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Transportation (EOT) headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, for implementation within their enterprise GIS.

Massachusetts EOT, formerly Massachusetts Department of Transportation, is an entity within the Massachusetts Office for Commonwealth Development charged with managing transportation within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Their mission is to promote economic vitality and a better quality of life by safely and efficiently moving people and goods within and through the Commonwealth. Agencies within the EOT include the Massachusetts Highway Department, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, Massachusetts Aeronautical Commission, the Registry of Motor Vehicles, the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and various regional transit authorities.

Orion will apply its expertise in Web-GIS development and consulting to implement OnPoint™ Professional on the Massachusetts EOT intranet, to enable utilization of all their spatial and non spatial data, increasing efficiency and effective decision making. In addition, OnPoint™ requires no programming because it is fully configurable through the powerful administration tool and it allows for complete extendibility by using OnPoint’s SDK extension.

Kevin Lopes, GIS System Administrator from Mass EOT, stated, “Our main goal for OnPoint is to provide a platform for our Data Resources team to provide geographical information to the rest of the departments throughout EOT and MassHighway, through easily created web pages that are dynamic, functional and attractive. An additional benefit would be to eventually allow direct editing of selected data by the appropriate departments. This would save us valuable time in our small office by eliminating the need to track down the data and update the layers ourselves.” Kevin added, “The InstaMap software can potentially eliminate more than half of the data requests we get from within the agency which will be our biggest advantage. This will allow our GIS staff to spend more time on analysis and development and get the most out of their talents"
