Tabnine, the creators of the industry’s first AI-powered assistant for developers, today announced it has raised an additional $15.5 million in funding from Qualcomm Ventures, OurCrowd, and Samsung NEXT Ventures, with participation from existing investors including Khosla Ventures, Headline Ventures, Hetz Ventures and TPY Capital. With this latest infusion of capital, Tabnine has raised a total of $32 million to date. Additionally, Tabnine announced that it has released the next generation of its AI code completion platform. Generally available today, the updated platform can now deliver long snippet suggestions and focused line code completions, helping developers drastically increase productivity.

From CI to AI: Developer Productivity Is Soaring with Tabnine

From infrastructure-as-code to continuous integration, companies that have implemented DevOps have seen dramatic productivity improvements in their software development and release processes. But those productivity benefits have typically stopped at the developer’s keyboard, as an explosion of frameworks, tools, languages, and APIs have only made a developer’s job harder. Artificial intelligence has the potential to do for developer productivity what CI has done for the release process, and Tabnine users are already proving it. Over 1 million developers are now using Tabnine’s AI technology directly in their IDE to successfully complete 30% or more of their code, while having to search 38% less for code examples on Google or StackOverflow. Overall, developers are using Tabnine to complete more than 4 million lines of code every day.

“Everyday, we get amazing feedback from developers and teams that Tabnine’s AI is now part of their flow, giving them time back to focus on higher-value activities,” said Dror Weiss, CEO & Co-Founder of Tabnine. “With longer and better code completions, our next-generation AI technology is a big step forward for developer productivity, further establishing Tabnine as the leader in AI-powered software development.”

Tabnine’s Next-Generation AI Technology Is Code-Native, Language Specific, and Modular

Over the last year, Tabnine has completely revamped both its AI models and its approach to integrating new models into its platform. As opposed to a monolithic approach that mandates a single AI model, Tabnine is now capable of supporting any compatible AI model for providing guidance to developers. The next-generation platform includes a dozen new AI models, each trained from the ground-up on code (vs. models pre-trained on text and retro-fitted to learn code). Each model is optimized for a specific language or domain, enabling Tabnine to contextually complete full lines and snippets of code with unprecedented accuracy. There are new, domain-specific models for Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, and 7 other languages available today in both Visual Studio Code or IntelliJ IDEs. The latest funding will be used to further accelerate development of Tabnine’s platform to add support for additional AI models and programming languages later this year.

Tabnine’s modular model approach means new models can be added as soon as they are available, and customers can train custom AI models on their own GitHub, GitLab, or BitBucket code repositories, further improving accuracy, along with consistency and coherence of their code base and enabling contextual code reuse. The latest generation of Tabnine’s platform offers customers more freedom to decide where to run Tabnine’s AI assistant to best meet their unique workflows - whether that’s on an individual developer’s machine, in Tabnine’s cloud service, or a self-hosted installation.

“Organizations are now realizing the power artificial intelligence has to transform their software development workflows and release cycle,” said Merav Weinryb, Vice President, Qualcomm Israel Ltd. and Managing Director of Qualcomm Ventures Israel and Europe. “Tabnine is at the forefront of delivering AI innovations that help developers code faster. As Qualcomm continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible to make AI ubiquitous, we are thrilled to join this funding round and support Tabnine as it scales its platform"

The next-generation Tabnine platform is generally available immediately. Developers interested in turbo charging their productivity through the use of AI-powered code completions can explore Tabnine’s new subscription offerings, available now at www.tabnine.com.
