They are very independent and prefer to discover information on their own, and learn quickly even though they do not think sequentially, and process information in unusual ways.

The authors rue that labels have been placed upon these unique schoolchildren, none of which represent who they really are. “We prefer to call them the new kids,” the authors said. “They have brought with them not only a new vigor, but a concentrated focus to help the human race to evolve into a new depth of awareness.”

“They sit in classrooms looking at you through disinterested eyes and somehow know they have been compelled by law to absorb as much information as their brains will hold to be able to bring up their test scores to satisfy standards. These test scores primarily are used to maintain the myth that students can be evaluated literally. Often, through frustrations, they begin to exhibit behaviors that cause concern for teachers and administrators, not to mention their parents.”

“The Missing Piece” promotes the development of the new kids’ spiritual nature, allowing them to reach their highest potential. The book is filled with solutions and expansive teaching techniques that include meditation, Reiki, chakras, the higher self, and the importance of spirituality. It offers a balanced and realistic way to educate the whole child, helping them to make connections to themselves and then work beyond themselves to extend their reach.

Author Bio

Dolores R. Card, M.ED, has taught metaphysical principles and doctrines for 30 years through classes, seminars, and workshops. She holds a Reiki practitioner certification for 25 years. She is a Reiki Master, ecumenical minister, and spiritual advisor. She worked as a core subject tutor with special education students at the elementary and middle school levels. She has served in various capacities providing services to victims to sexual assault and advocating for women’s rights. She has been interviewed on numerous TV programs and newscasts and authored numerous articles in magazines and journals. She has appeared at national and international conferences as a keynote speaker throughout her career.

Hermon R. Card, MS.ED, is a retired English Teacher from the Marcellus, New York Central School District. He holds a B.A. in English and an M.S. in English Education from Syracuse University. His background in education is extensive – 32 years of classroom teaching, along with over 20 years of professional development consulting and motivational speaking. He is well versed in the state of education today and has written extensively on the topic as an education columnist. Moreover, he is an activist for the cause of minimizing the burden of assessment testing and government in education in the quest to return teaching to teachers. He has received numerous awards and grants for his teaching, innovative classroom programs, poetry, and photography. He is currently an adjunct professor in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
