DON Recovery Services Sponsors Project PA Hemp Home Ribbon-Cutting

The first home built from hemp-based materials in Pennsylvania was sponsored by DON Recovery Services.

Lori Daytner, processing project manager, oversaw Project PA Hemp Home. Daytner stated the house was built from the ground up using hemp materials. Industrial hemp is better for the environment and is less toxic to humans compared to traditional building materials. Project PA Hemp home was built using materials such as Hempwood and Hempcrete to make the home sustainable.

“Project PA Hemp Home is a real-life demonstration of the impact of hemp-based building materials,” said Daytner.

Phil Berezniak, co-owner of DON Recovery Services, said DON Recovery is a significant sponsor for Project PA Hemp Home due to the positive contributions the project has made to the community.

Project PA Hemp Home was built to be accommodating for individuals with disabilities. The hemp building materials create cleaner air for individuals with asthma and the doorframes are built to fit a wheelchair. After the project is complete, the Project PA Hemp Home house is to be sold to an individual with a disability.

“DON Recovery’s mission is to help those in need,” said Berezniak. “DON Recovery offers Suboxone, Subutex and Vivitrol treatment to those struggling with opioid addiction. However, this partnership with Project PA Hemp Home aidsthe community in a different area of need: sustainability and helping those with a disability.”

Berezniak said the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Project PA Hemp Home is just the beginning of the possibilities for industrial hemp.
