Kraft Sports Productions to produce weekly football programming with Avid’s industry-leading ingest, shared storage, and nonlinear editing systems

Tewksbury, MA — June 8, 2005 — Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID) today announced that Kraft Sports Productions, the production company for the New England Patriots and other Kraft family businesses, has deployed an Avid digital postproduction workflow to produce weekly televised football programming. The new digital production environment will be used to create a range of programs, including Patriots: All Access – a weekly series broadcast on ABC-affiliate WCVB-TV – designed to give viewers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the three-time Super Bowl champions. The end-to-end postproduction workflow centers around the revolutionary Avid Unity® MediaNetwork shared-storage system, and connects an Avid AirSpeed® system for ingesting media with Avid Xpress® Pro and Avid Media Composer® Adrenaline systems for video editing and finishing.

“We’re producing programs that showcase the extraordinary teamwork behind the New England Patriots organization, with thousands of hours of eye-catching footage from some of the most exciting games. Avid’s industry-standard tools will allow us to cut production cycles significantly and invest more creative time on delivering shows that are sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats,” said Dave Mondillo of Kraft Sports Productions. “Moving to a digital postproduction workflow can be challenging. To do it right, we knew it would require a reliable technology infrastructure and a well-trained staff of editors and producers who are up-to-date on the latest production capabilities. We chose Avid systems because they give us the performance and flexibility to do more than we ever imagined.”

With footage and clips stored on the Avid Unity MediaNetwork system, the new postproduction workflow will enable Kraft Sports Productions to take advantage of a shared-media environment, allowing multiple editors in different locations to work simultaneously – and in real-time. This new environment will eliminate the need to shuttle hundreds of tapes back and forth to users, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing the time it takes to complete projects.

Dana Ruzicka, vice president of post solutions for Avid, said, “Kraft Sports Productions is the latest among a growing group of media professionals who are migrating from standalone editing workstations to collaborative workflows. With a new end-to-end postproduction environment in place, Kraft Sports Productions is empowering creative teams to easily share media between systems and locations, and to simultaneously work on various elements of any program that they currently have in production. We are pleased that Kraft has made this important transition with Avid tools.”
