BRF, one of the largest food companies in the world, has already started the slaughtering of turkeys to meet the demand of the end-of-year festivities in Brazil and abroad in 2022. In Chapecó, in the west of Santa Catarina, is the only unit of the company which produces seasoned Christmas turkeys.

The production cycle of these commemorative products begins the previous summer, in March, with the creation of birds on farms, under a strict animal welfare program, in line with Brazilian legislation and international standards. The slaughter period must occur until November, when the products arrive at the points of sale. Last year, sales of Commemorative Kits grew by 11% compared to 2020.

Chapecó started slaughtering turkeys and began marketing the whole bird in transparent packaging in 1973, a pioneering initiative in Brazil. A year later, to make life easier for consumers, BRF launched the seasoned version of turkey and years later started using a thermometer to indicate the ideal cooking point of the product, technology imported from the United States.

In addition to whole turkey varieties, the plant also prepares seasoned turkey breast cuts for marketing in 800-gram trays, offering consumers new options for this protein. The turkeys produced in Chapecó are exported to South Africa, Chile, Middle Eastern countries, Paraguay and Uruguay and the entire Brazilian market.

“The production of the commemorative turkey line is one of the most important for BRF to make the Christmas celebrations of millions of Brazilian families and other parts of the world even tastier”, highlights the company’s regional director of Operations in Rio Grande do Sul. and Santa Catarina, Sandro Leite.
