Billboard Announces First Annual Top Women in Music; List Unveils Executives, Artists that Broke through Boy’s Club; Judy McGrath, Jennifer Lopez Top Lists

NEW YORK, June 6 -— Billboard today unveiled its Top Women in Music list. From label executives to digital gurus, publishers to artists, the women included have not only helped shape the music business, they are the architects of its future. The artists listed were chosen based on their business prowess and ability to transform their fame into a multi-layered brand.

Judy McGrath, chairman/CEO, MTV Networks, topped the list of executives and Jennifer Lopez, a triple threat singer, actress and businesswoman, crowned the artist category.

“Because of the achievements of these women, other female executives have found their way to the music business,” said Tamara Conniff, executive editor of Billboard. “We are inspired and awed by their successes and Billboard takes great pleasure in recognizing the accomplishments of these top people in business.”
