Author Marilyn Keeton Shares an Anthology of Short Stories that Explores Life, Love, Mystery, and Farewells in her book “Five Novellas”

The plot revolves around a catastrophe that killed 125,000 people, destroyed four cities, and changed the course of the Sacramento River. When a covert mission to deliver tons of NaK went awry, it created an explosion that destroyed multitudes of properties and caused a Dam to collapse resulting in a flood that engulfed Redding. In the midst of the chaos, loss, and pain, love shines through for the protagonist, and a touching historical story that will pull every reader’s heartstring is soon revealed.

The second story, “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon,” is a tragic story that puts the love of two sisters to test when they were abandoned and left to fend for themselves. Will the love of Noreen for her sister Irene, end?

The third story scrutinizes the benefits and perils of having an online persona. Bethany used to have it all. Pretty, smart, and was loved by everyone around her. Unfortunately, a vehicular accident changed the course of her life. Scorched by the fire during the accident, Bethany finds it hard to continue living her life. That was before she received a computer from her parents. Things started to look up again, but will she find love or abuse? What awaits Bethany and her “Internet Romance?”

In “Whispering Pines,” a peaceful rehab center awaits people in need of solace, salvation, and redemption. But the tranquility brought by the air, trees, and wild animals was abruptly disturbed by murder. Why and who are the questions that will linger in the minds of readers.

In the last entry in the anthology, “Agnes and Blanch,” two women who become friends decide to travel to see friends and family they hadn’t seen in some time. One must say goodbye, and one must say hello. But will it be a bitter farewell? Or a “hello” to a better future?

The book is rich in lessons about life and love. It is an interesting take on life and the things that might happen to anyone at any time. It is both entertaining and enriching.
