CBS Sunday Morning has written a love letter to Architectural Digest, as it takes a look back at the first hundred years of the brand.

The CBS team also visited the Condé Nast archives, to see how the brand that has celebrated style for a century continues to evoke home.

“For a century now, Architectural Digest has been taking note of how and where we live. Just before the pandemic, the magazine celebrated 100 years with a book of its favorite homes, and a stylish party,” writes CBS.

CBS’s correspondant Serena Altschul spoke to Architectural Digest’s Global Editorial Director, Amy Astley, about when she first started working on the brand. “I wanted Architectural Digest to be buzzy, current, relevant, for people to talk about it,” Astley told Altschul. “Now, people say to me, ’I saw Maria Sharapova on the cover. I saw Lenny Kravitz on the cover,’ Astley explained.

”You want to see how other people live,“ continued Astley. ”It’s an enduring interest to see beautiful homes, how other people live, what that could look like. Maybe it’s inspiring, or maybe you’re like, ’Ugh, I hate that.’ I think that’s also just a sense of hope for people: Someday I’m gonna have the house I really want.“

”Architectural Digest has lasted 100 years because of the quality of the mission, that we’re showing you the best" said Astley.
