Kenny Harmon’s “Sad Papaw’s Heritage“ will be featured in Spring 2022
Harmon’s new release takes readers on a one way ticket to the mid 1800’s up to the 1930’s. The time in America that will never be forgotten.
Remembering a time when America was still a dreamer.
Kenny Harmon, author of “Sad Papaw’s Heritage” (Peppertree Publishing, 2019), will be featured at The Festival of Books in Spring 2022. This book tells about the history that began in the fields of Kentucky dating back from the 1800s to the early 1970s. The story begins with revisiting the days when Americans first took to the fields to play a new game called baseball, and how farmers struggled with hard work, doubts, and dreams of a new life in America.
Back to the days when parents and doctors struggled to find a cure for simple ailments for pneumonia, headaches, and even labor pains. A time in America that will never be forgotten.
The story of Sad Papaw began March 16th, 2016 when his granddaughter Kelsey Harmon posted a tweet about her Papaw cooking a dozen burgers for six grandkids as she was the only one to be at his house. As the word spread, much later, folks from New York, Virginia, California, Washington, Canada and a woman representing a media company from Australia came to his house for a cookout on March 26, 2016. To his surprise, over 2000 people showed up.
Given the author’s background, it’s no surprise that he’d come to create this historical narrative. Kenny Harmon, retired ironworker, and now the author of “Sad Papaw’s Heritage” was a 4th generation farmer of watermelons and numerous other crops in Dibble, Oklahoma. He published his book not only to tell his story but also in the hopes of educating readers about the people’s hardships during the time of economic struggle in America. More specifically, the story of a farmer’s struggles, drawn from Harmon’s personal experiences, such as discriminatory railroad rates, monopolistic prices for farm machinery, an oppressively high tariff, an unfair tax structure, and many more than a reader can imagine.
A wholesome and insightful account of what it was like to have a dream and start a new life in America. Interested?
