Demographics Surveys
County and Puerto Rico Municipio Population Estimates: July 1, 2006 — Flagler County, along Florida’s northeast coast, has been the nation’s fastest-growing county in recent years. Will this enclave, named for the builder of the Florida East Coast Railway, continue to hold this distinction? The answer will be revealed via Internet tables showing population estimates, rankings and components of change for the nation’s 3,141 counties and county equivalents since Census 2000 and up to July 1, 2006. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-March.)

Families and Living Arrangement: 2006 — Latest national family portrait of married couple and single-parent families, stay-at-home mothers and fathers, people who live alone, children who live with grandparents, and men and women who marry and remain single. Data are from the Current Population Survey. (Tentatively scheduled for release mid-March.)

Extended Measures of Well-Being: Living Conditions in the United States, 2003 — National measures from the Survey of Income and Program Participation covering five broad domains, including possession of appliances and electronic goods, such as cell phones; housing conditions; neighborhoods and community services; ability to pay bills and buy groceries; and expectations of getting help from friends, families and communities. (Tentatively scheduled for release late March.)

2006 Metropolitan and Micropolitan Area Population Estimates — St. George, Utah, in the southwest corner of the Beehive State, has been the nation’s fastest-growing metro area in recent years. Will this former farming community continue to hold this distinction? The answer will be revealed via Internet tables showing population estimates and rankings of change for the nation’s 361 metro and 577 micro areas between April 1, 2000, and July 1, 2006. (Tentatively scheduled for release early April.)

Economics Surveys
2006 Annual Survey of State and Local Government Employment and Payroll — Annual estimates on how many people are employed by state and local governments — from state-owned alcoholic beverage stores to law enforcement officers to higher education — and the payroll of these governments. Summary data are provided for each state. (Scheduled for release March 5.)

Facts for Features
Cinco de Mayo — “The Fifth of May,” a national holiday in Mexico, has become a time to celebrate Mexican heritage and culture. The Census Bureau joins in the festivities with a collection of data relating to U.S. residents of Mexican descent. (Tentatively scheduled for release early March.)

Mother’s Day (May 13, 2007) — Flowers, perfume and jewelry are all popular gifts given on this special day honoring our nation’s moms. This fact sheet presents statistical information from the Census Bureau’s economic and demographic subject areas on these and many other topics pertaining to this observance. (Tentatively scheduled for release March 13.)

Profile America and Al Dia CDs bear new features for added programming flexibility: additional 60-second and 30-second cuts for play any date in the month. Unlike the “traditional” public service features, which are day and date specific, these extra cuts are generic to the month and so can be aired any day.
