Power of Most-Advanced Digital Fiber-Optic Network Now Available to 30 DFW Metroplex Markets; Customers Continue to Leave Competitors in Favor of Faster Speeds, Richer Experience at Affordable Prices.

IRVING, Texas - Anything Verizon customers in Argyle, Bartonville, Copper Canyon and Justin want to do on the Internet -- from gaming to movies to video conferencing to Web surfing, e-mail and shopping -- just got easier and faster than ever. Verizon, deploying the nation’s most advanced digital, all-fiber-optic network, announced Friday (March 2) that its ultra-fast FiOS (FYE’-ose) Internet Service is now available in these four cities, bringing to 30 the number of North Texas markets where FiOS is offered.

With this latest market launch, nearly 400,000 North Texas households and small businesses can now rely on fast, reliable Internet connections to meet all of their entertainment, information and business needs. Area competitors offer much slower upstream speeds, meaning it takes longer than it does with FiOS to send files or commands from a user’s computer.

In addition, Verizon will seek approval from the Texas Public Utility Commission to offer its industry-leading FiOS television service to Argyle, Bartonville and Copper Canyon as soon as feasible. The company has not yet provided a timeline for offering FiOS TV in Justin.

“Customer response to FiOS voice, high-speed data and television services in Texas continues to grow at a record pace as thousands of people sign up each week for the service,” said Trinidad Aguirre, Verizon’s senior vice president and general manager for Texas. “Verizon FiOS services deliver jaw-dropping speed, incredible picture-and-sound clarity and innovative new services from a brand people know and trust. With our robust lineup of fiber-based services, there should be no surprise that a steady stream of consumers who want greater value are leaving their cable provider and jumping on the FiOS bandwagon.”

Network Reliability, Competitive Pricing Spur FiOS Growth

Verizon, the first company to connect homes and businesses directly to fiber optics on a widespread scale, offers its FiOS voice and Internet service in more than 1,600 cities in parts of 16 states, and provides its FiOS TV service in more than 200 cities in parts of 10 states, including Texas where FiOS was first introduced.

To deliver its FiOS service in North Texas, Verizon has installed more than 25 million feet of fiber and hired nearly 1,400 full-time employees during the past three years in Tarrant, Dallas, Denton and Collin County.

In addition to the four new markets, Verizon offers FiOS voice, high-speed data and television to its customers in Allen, Carrollton, Colleyville, Coppell, Corinth, Denton, Double Oak, Flower Mound, northern Fort Worth, Garland, Grapevine, Hebron, Highland Village, Irving, Keller, Lucas, Murphy, Lewisville, Parker, Plano, Rowlett, Sachse, Southlake, St. Paul, Westlake and Wylie. Verizon will begin constructing its all-fiber network in several other markets outside the DFW Metroplex this spring.

“The reliability of our all-fiber network and competitive pricing produce tremendous advantages over competitors and give consumers a compelling reason to switch to Verizon FiOS for the most rewarding broadband experience,” said Verizon Southwest Region President Steve Banta, noting the importance of streamlined rules in Texas that updated antiquated video franchise laws and helped spur video competition.

“The passage of Texas Senate Bill 5 in 2005 continues to produce benefits for consumers across Texas because many more people now have an opportunity to select their video services provider,” Banta said. “Competition produces better products and prices and lets consumers select the services they want. Fortunately for Verizon, our FiOS services deliver just what bandwidth-hungry people are seeking for work, home and play.”

Verizon is the first and only major telecommunications company to be certified by the independent Fiber to the Home Council as providing customers with 100 percent fiber-optic service, the ultimate communications and entertainment technology.

Market research firm RVA Render & Associates, on behalf of the Fiber to the Home Council, recently reported on the success of video competition in Texas. In its study, the firm stated that video via fiber to the home has grown eight times faster in Texas than it has in the rest of the country since Texas Senate Bill 5 was signed into law.

FiOS Gives Texas Consumers a Broadband Power Boost

In Texas, Verizon offers several tiers of service with downstream (download) speeds of up to 5, 15 and 30 Mbps (megabits per second) and upstream (upload) speeds of up to 5 Mbps.*

Residential customers who want to determine whether they can order FiOS Internet Service can call 888-GET FIOS (888-438-3467) or visit Verizon’s FiOS Web site at www.verizonfios.com. Additional information about FiOS TV can be obtained at www.verizon.com/fiostv. Small businesses can contact their local Verizon business office or account manager to determine if they qualify for FiOS Internet Service for Business.

One of the significant advantages of FiOS over ordinary broadband, such as cable, is the ability to quickly upload content, including digital photos and videos and large personal text files. It also takes online gaming to a whole new level.

Each FiOS service for consumers is available either as part of a bundle of local and long-distance calling services from Verizon, or as a stand-alone Internet access service. Plans with a one-year service commitment include free professional installation and configuration of one PC or laptop.

There are three tiers of Verizon FiOS Internet Service for Texas consumers:

5 Mbps downstream and 2 Mbps upstream. Suited for Internet surfing and basic computer functions. $39.99 a month.

15 Mbps downstream and 2 Mbps upstream. Appealing to families that have multiple computers and various needs such as media downloads and the ability to access or share large files. $49.99 a month.

30 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream. Designed for communications-intensive power users with significant bandwidth needs, such as telecommuters or work-at-home households and avid online gamers. $179.95 a month with a one-year agreement.
Each consumer data offer includes: state-of-the-art, wireless broadband home router; Verizon’s Surround entertainment portal optimized for high-speed access featuring news, games, streaming video and more; virtually unlimited 2 GB (gigabytes) of e-mail capacity with up to nine e-mail accounts; 24/7 live technical support; and 30-day money-back guarantee.

Small Businesses Can Get Big Business Speeds With FiOS

FiOS for Business gives companies robust connection speeds for bandwidth-intensive applications at prices close to those charged by the ordinary broadband service providers.

FiOS Internet service for small businesses is available as part of a bundle of local and long-distance calling services from Verizon, or as a stand-alone Internet access service. Small-business customers can receive free professional installation for their primary computer, plus a discount off of their standard monthly rate with a qualifying local-calling service package, if the one-bill option is selected.

Small-business owners can choose from three types of service and either a dynamic Internet protocol (IP) address or a static IP address. Dynamic IP addresses are best suited for small businesses that do not have a Web site but still use the Internet for research or light to moderate e-mail. Static IP addresses, where a specific Internet routing code is assigned for exclusive use, are ideal for small businesses that:

Are highly automated.

Need to host Web or e-mail servers, or both.

Have e-commerce capabilities.

Have employees who telecommute.
All business service tiers include 24x7 business-grade technical support. Companies also receive 20 MB (megabytes) of Web space and unlimited remote dial-up access that keeps employees connected when they’re on the road.

* NOTE: Actual (throughput) speeds will vary.
