Verizon Expands Ultra-Fast FiOS Internet Service to 4 More North Texas Cities

Power of Most-Advanced Digital Fiber-Optic Network Now Available to 30 DFW Metroplex Markets; Customers Continue to Leave Competitors in Favor of Faster Speeds, Richer Experience at Affordable Prices.

IRVING, Texas - Anything Verizon customers in Argyle, Bartonville, Copper Canyon and Justin want to do on the Internet -- from gaming to movies to video conferencing to Web surfing, e-mail and shopping -- just got easier and faster than ever. Verizon, deploying the nation’s most advanced digital, all-fiber-optic network, announced Friday (March 2) that its ultra-fast FiOS (FYE’-ose) Internet Service is now available in these four cities, bringing to 30 the number of North Texas markets where FiOS is offered.

With this latest market launch, nearly 400,000 North Texas households and small businesses can now rely on fast, reliable Internet connections to meet all of their entertainment, information and business needs. Area competitors offer much slower upstream speeds, meaning it takes longer than it does with FiOS to send files or commands from a user’s computer.

In addition, Verizon will seek approval from the Texas Public Utility Commission to offer its industry-leading FiOS television service to Argyle, Bartonville and Copper Canyon as soon as feasible. The company has not yet provided a timeline for offering FiOS TV in Justin.

Network Reliability, Competitive Pricing Spur FiOS Growth

Verizon, the first company to connect homes and businesses directly to fiber optics on a widespread scale, offers its FiOS voice and Internet service in more than 1,600 cities in parts of 16 states, and provides its FiOS TV service in more than 200 cities in parts of 10 states, including Texas where FiOS was first introduced.

To deliver its FiOS service in North Texas, Verizon has installed more than 25 million feet of fiber and hired nearly 1,400 full-time employees during the past three years in Tarrant, Dallas, Denton and Collin County.

In addition to the four new markets, Verizon offers FiOS voice, high-speed data and television to its customers in Allen, Carrollton, Colleyville, Coppell, Corinth, Denton, Double Oak, Flower Mound, northern Fort Worth, Garland, Grapevine, Hebron, Highland Village, Irving, Keller, Lucas, Murphy, Lewisville, Parker, Plano, Rowlett, Sachse, Southlake, St. Paul, Westlake and Wylie. Verizon will begin constructing its all-fiber network in several other markets outside the DFW Metroplex this spring.

Verizon is the first and only major telecommunications company to be certified by the independent Fiber to the Home Council as providing customers with 100 percent fiber-optic service, the ultimate communications and entertainment technology.

Market research firm RVA Render & Associates, on behalf of the Fiber to the Home Council, recently reported on the success of video competition in Texas. In its study, the firm stated that video via fiber to the home has grown eight times faster in Texas than it has in the rest of the country since Texas Senate Bill 5 was signed into law.
