Carol Wilson-Mack Releases Audiobook Edition of Her Book “Patchwork: Conversation Between Generations”
The author’s memoir about a quilting group led by her paternal grandmother is now available as an audiobook.
“I am inspired by these women. Despite some terrible circumstances, most of them carried on with their lives and worked through it.” Megan Walvoord, Seattle Book Review
Carol Wilson-Mack’s “Patchwork: Conversation Between Generations” revolves around the themes of family, race, and conversation. The book tells the lives and stories of God-centered black women of rural Bamberg, South Carolina. These women - grandparents, sisters, daughters, wives, and aunts – came together to address the lack of quilts in their community.
By participating in the patchwork group, these women received the opportunity and encouragement to share their stories, as well as challenges, secrets, anguish, and frustrations. These interactions helped the women strengthen their friendship, edify their families, and increase their faith and hope.
“Patchwork: Conversation Between Generations” has been well received by Amazon customers and book reviewers.
Amazon customer E. Tait called the book “a profound and candid history of one community’s triumphs and tragedies.” She said, “The author carries us to a world where so-called grown folk’s business was veiled with secrets, code words, and even at times misinformation. She gives us eyes and ears to the events and conversations of the beginnings, middles, and finales of characters introduced.”
Kristi Elizabeth of the Portland Book Review wrote in her review, “really loved how the book was organized and included several pictures of the women. It was easy to keep track of each member of the group and what was going on.
“Overall, ‘Patchwork’ is a beautiful memoir that should be shared around the world as the stories each have something we can learn from.”
Readers also could somewhat relate to the stories shared by the participants in the patchwork group. Said Amazon customer EumeRose, “This book kept me turning pages in anticipation of the next story. My mouth was opened, and I was sitting on the edge of my chair by the final chapter. Though these stories take place in South Carolina, they remind me of stories I overheard growing up as a young girl in South Georgia.”
