PVH’s Empower Women Progress Reported in UNF’s Private Sector Action Progress Report

WEBWIRE

Since making a commitment to amplify our gender equality efforts with the United Nations Foundation (UNF) in October 2020, PVH has made significant progress towards our goals to empower women. We’re proud to have marked milestones despite the challenges faced by the global pandemic, which disproportionately impacted women across the supply chain, from the exacerbation of existing barriers to employment and access to health services to dramatic increases in gender based violence.

The UNF recently published the 2021 Private Sector Action for Women’s Health and Empowerment Progress Report, detailing the progress made by PVH and the status of 21 companies’ large-scale commitments that aim to improve the health and well-being of over 2 million women workers and community members in supply chains across 17 countries. Through the UNF’s Universal Access Project, which leads the Private Sector Action initiative, global business organizations were asked to implement “bold, measurable, and time-bound plans to reach women workers with health and empowerment information and services”. Although supply chains and operations were negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Report found that all of the companies stood by their pledges to women workers and found new paths to support women in the supply chain, highlighting the importance of investing in women’s health and empowerment programs during crises.

PVH signed on to the Private Sector Action for Women’s Health and Empowerment initiative with the goal of amplifying our gender equality efforts and reaffirmed our commitment to provide professional and life skills development programs and services to 500,000 women across our supply chain by 2030. The Report highlights that thus far we’ve reached 6,600 women and have been able to scale and expand the Gap Inc. Personal Advancement and Career Enhancement (P.A.C.E.) training into new regions. Various women’s health and well-being implementations have developed and occurred in the last year as a part of our commitment, including a partnership with The Power of Nutrition, endorsing the ILO’s Call to Action, refining water sanitation and hygiene (W.A.S.H.) curriculum to reflect COVID-19 precautions, and an investment of $100,000 USD to the Empower@Work training platform to scale collective industry action on women’s empowerment, and more.

Seema Jalan, Executive Director of the Universal Access Project highlighted the importance of such initiatives, stating “this is about putting women in the driver’s seat of their own health, lives and futures. With that as the foundation, companies are also investing in women’s ability to make even greater contributions to the workforce and society”.
