Baiba Kreger Shares the Story of Her Family’s Resilience in Her Memoir “My Heritage, My Destiny”

Baiba chronicles her life and the journey she trod to reach where she currently is. The book “My Heritage, My Destiny” is for individuals who have no idea what freedom means or how much it costs.

During WWII, a little girl and her family fought to flee Latvia and end up as refugees in war-torn Germany. It’s a test of their fortitude to not know when or if the next bite of food will arrive, or where the next bomb will land. The hardships the family went through contributed to their ability to survive and establish a new life in America.

It’s also the narrative of a little girl, who later becomes a lady looking for love. When the little girl fell prey to a predator, her life is forever changed. Still, she persevered through several rejections and won the respect of her peers.

Through hard effort and perseverance, she earned three degrees in teaching. She then went to Latvia, which was still under Communist rule, and experienced firsthand how badly her extended family and other Latvians had suffered throughout the occupation.

The book is a thoughtful retelling of a journey laced with struggles and perseverance. Baiba inspires hope and diligence as well as the will to start all over again. She bravely confronted every setback that comes along her way and with courage, overcame them all.

Baiba earned her Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and has been an educator all of her life. She has three grown children and seven grandchildren. In retirement, she lives in Pennsylvania with her two cats, Cinnamon and Furby.
