EF Johnson Technologies, Inc. (“EFJT”), a JVCKENWOOD Corporation (“JVCKENWOOD”)’s U.S. communication systems subsidiary, signed a $ 28 million contract with the County of Santa Barbara, California, U.S. to provide professional digital radio systems. This major contract will include the supply of professional digital radio systems and support services.

Professional digital radio systems to be delivered to the County of Santa Barbara

EFJT will provide the County with the ATLAS system, a radio control system compatible with the P25 digital radio standard developed for the U.S. public safety market, and the Viking series radios unified under the KENWOOD brand. Both systems will support a simulcast* system to provide the stable radio communication even in the vast area of the County. JVCKENWOOD will support EFJT in the development, production, and quality assurance of the radio systems.

The system will be used in the County’s law enforcement, fire departments, and public works projects. EFJT has been awarded the contract due to the evaluation of the high quality and reliability of the system, the excellent resiliency of the system in the event of a wireless failure in a wide area network, and the scalability of the system to meet needs and budgets of clients based on the knowledge and expertise that JVCKENWOOD and EFJT have accumulated over many years.

*Transmission of the same frequency from multiple different base stations. It can cover a wide area and make effective use of frequencies.

Future initiatives in the Communications Systems Business

Australian research teams – including at La Trobe University and the Telethon Kids Institute – have internationally-recognized expertise for work on the early identification, diagnosis and intervention with very young children with autism, from birth to school entry. By increasing opportunities for ASD assessment from early childhood, JVCKENWOOD will promote access to effective treatment and education in early life and contribute to improving quality of life of children and families in a diverse society.

The future wireless market is expected to undergo a major transition from narrowband to broadband as digitization progresses. For this reason, JVCKENWOOD considers the broadband wireless business to be a key business that will support the company’s future growth in the medium-term management plan VISION 2023 which was formulated in May 2021. While expanding the market share in the existing narrowband wireless business and rebuilding the revenue base, JVCKENWOOD will strengthen efforts in broadband solutions including collaboration with other companies, which will be a new business field, by fully utilizing the management assets cultivated to date.
