Vogue’s record-breaking Met Gala coverage

Vogue’s unparalleled access to this year’s Met Gala generated record-breaking coverage across Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Vogue.com.

Site traffic to Vogue.com saw both scale and time spent achieve record results, with triple digit growth compared to 2019.

The exclusive Met Gala red carpet live stream, hosted by guests Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer, was watched by over 15 million viewers on vogue.com and the brand’s Twitter account.

All global views of the video, both live and VOD, totaled over 54 million minutes of content watched – a huge achievement for the whole Vogue team.

Vogue.com also saw 15x more direct traffic during the event than the daily average, and the brand had over 200 million views across all social platforms.

“The 2021 Met Gala may not have taken place on the traditional first Monday in May, but the glamorous fundraiser was certainly one to remember, with Vogue touting record breaking digital engagement around the event,” wrote Variety.

In an interview with Variety, Anna Wintour, global editorial director, Vogue, and chief content officer, Condé Nast, said: “What a wonderful way to play a part in the creativity and positivity in the American fashion community. I want to thank the teams at Vogue, Condé Nast Entertainment and the Met for their hard work. I’m so very proud of what they’ve accomplished.”

The New York Times praised the Met Gala, writing: “This year the gala, also known as the party of the year,” was framed as part of New York’s re-emergence, along with the reopening of Broadway shows, indoor dining and the U.S.Open...The result was a more local, younger and sportier guest list than usual (also a smaller one, as it had been downsized by about a third out of safety concerns). But the outfits were as eye-catching as always"
