First Annual Manufacturing Day Houston to Educate Youth about Millions of High-Paying Modern Manufacturing Jobs

Houston, Texas USA – WEBWIRE

The First Annual Manufacturing Day Houston invites teachers along with middle- and high-school youth throughout Greater Houston to learn about advanced manufacturing jobs.

Manufacturing Day Houston will open with a keynote from Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale of Gallery Furniture. Then, students will engage in interactive manufacturing activities, innovative technical demonstrations, and interact with industry experts to learn about advanced technologies in Process Manufacturing, Product Manufacturing, Bioengineering, and more. Manufacturing Day Houston will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021, at TXRX East End Maker Hub (EEMH) located at 6501 Navigation Blvd, Houston, TX 77011. Schools and students attending the event will receive free admission, lunch, and bus transportation.

Manufacturing Day Houston is the local effort to join National Manufacturing Day and Creators Wanted, both manufacturing industry initiatives supported by the National Association of Manufacturers and the Manufacturing Institute. Manufacturing Day Houston has been created to reshape the perception of the manufacturing industry and help today’s youth understand how they can match their talents with in-demand products and process advanced manufacturing jobs that average $87,185 annually plus benefits. Yet, misinterpretations about the manufacturing industry and skilled trades cause many manufacturing jobs to go unfilled. Students can receive training for these jobs at Houston’s community colleges and technical programs and be gainfully employed in advanced manufacturing careers.

Manufacturing is critical to building the nation’s economy. According to Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute, 4.6 million U.S. advanced manufacturing jobs will be needed by 2030. The National Association of Manufacturing estimates that each $1 spent in manufacturing adds $2.79 to the economy and each $1 earned indirect manufacturing labor income yields $3.14 in labor income elsewhere. Failing to fill these advanced manufacturing jobs could cost the U.S. $1 trillion.

Manufacturing is a win-win for Houston. With Houston’s manufacturing sectors tied to the overall U.S. economy, the Greater Houston area has the opportunity to thrive as a manufacturing powerhouse by returning manufacturing to the U.S.

“Houston is an amazing city with a variety of entrepreneurs, inventors, and industry specialties. To support these firms, we need tens of thousands of skilled employees in a plethora of advanced manufacturing jobs. On the product manufacturing side, they include Space, Medical Devices, Robotics, Additive Manufacturing, BioEngineering, and next-generation energy devices. From the process manufacturing side - refined products, chemicals, beverages, and plastics,” said Michael Holthouse, CEO, and founder of Holthouse Foundation For Kids (HFFK). HFFK is also the leading sponsor and organizer for Manufacturing Day Houston. “This is our first year celebrating Manufacturing Day Houston. For health and safety precautions, attendance is limited. We expect Manufacturing Day Houston to be a landmark event in Houston and grow dramatically in the coming year,” concludes Holthouse.

Other sponsoring organizations joining the Holthouse Foundation for Kids include UpSkill Houston, the Greater Houston Manufacturing Association, and Triple S Steel. Thanks to their generous contribution, the event, transportation, and food and beverages are free to schools and their students. Interested sponsors are encouraged to contact Eva Sirman with the Greater Houston Manufacturing Association at 281-369-4462 or admin@houston-mfg.com
