Sandy Throne Brings the Adoption of a Pet Kitten to Life in her book “A Tale from the Shelter”

Author Sandy Throne found the stories she was reading to her grandchildren in modern children’s books to be too simplistic. The illustrations were very basic and done in primary colors lacking the richness that she remembered from her childhood books. She has created her first book in a planned series about the adoption and future adventures of an unusual looking kitten from the animal shelter.

Sandy engages the listener or early grade reader in the plight of a kitten that is overlooked in the adoption process at an animal shelter. The story progresses from first meeting of the kitten with the big ears to the end when the kitten gets to her new home with her new name: Sophie. The rich illustrations make the book come alive like an animated Disney™ movie.

Sophie takes on a personality of her own through the caricatures created by the illustrator, Erin Raught. This first book in the series ends with Sophie contemplating her future adventures as she curls up on a chair for her “catnap.”

The next book in the series is about the development of her friendship with Oscar the Mouse, a most unlikely pair. Each book is designed to help young children learn valuable lessons in life such as it’s okay to be different since we are all different in many ways. Children will learn to be observant of their world through Sophie’s eyes.

This is the first book for Sandy Throne. She lives in El Dorado Hills, California with her husband. Sophie passed away in May, 2021, the books are based on the main character of Sophie.
