Author Sandy Harlan, Releases the Second Edition of her Debut Book, “The God Nobody Knows”

Indianapolis, IN – WEBWIRE

Sandy Harlan is a retired deacon in the United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement she served as the Associate Director for Clergy Services in the Indiana Conference. Previously she served a dual appointment as Associate Director of Ministerial Services for the South Indiana Conference and Director of Financial Ministries for St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Bloomington, Indiana. In the second edition of her book, “The God Nobody Knows,” she focuses on four points:

  • Digging deep into the Scriptures to find the God of Jesus of Nazareth.
  • Looking for the prophetic God of Jesus’ teachings.
  • Searching beyond the stereotype of American “pop” Christianity.
  • A Scripturally-based, prophetic book about a God who cares for everyone.

The book’s autobiographical tone allows readers to have a more personalized experience. Harlan then moves on from her autobiography to discuss how modern Christianity in America affects her own heart. In response to the infighting, the hypocrisy, and the misplaced zeal of American Christianity. Harlan offers a response op how America sees God and how contemporary pop Christianity paints God according to how they want Him to be. “The God Nobody Knows” takes us back to the time of Jesus’ ministry, and before, and reintroduces us to the real identity of a God who cares for everyone.

“Harlan is careful to never be too abrasive, accusatory, or overtly political, but she also refuses to shy away from calling out contradictory conservative viewpoints on war and poverty in America. She often addresses the reader directly and in the second person, writing like a passionate friend with strong convictions who is respectfully calling for reason, inclusiveness, and fresh perspectives on well-known doctrine. Carefully and thoughtfully constructed arguments about contemporary Christianity and the questions believers should ask themselves in today’s world.” – Kirkus Indie, Kirkus Media LLC.

The book provides a unique perspective that questions believers’ and church leaders’ understanding of God’s true identity. “The God Nobody Knows.”
