Smithsonian Craft Show Goes Virtual Once Again in 2021
The 2021 Smithsonian Craft Show will be held virtually from Oct. 23 to Oct. 31. Originally scheduled in-person for October, the craft show will now be online due to health and safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The 2020 Smithsonian Craft Show was also held virtually due to the pandemic.
For nine days (Oct. 23–31), online Artist Shops will feature more than 100 contemporary crafters. Each artist has created a digital Artist Shop on a secured platform, where visitors can browse or seek a specific treasure, and purchases can be made safely. The categories include works of wearable art, basketry, ceramics, decorative fibers, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed-media, paper and wood.
Sponsored by the Smithsonian Women’s Committee (SWC), the Craft Show is a sale of the finest in American contemporary craft and design, handcrafted in America. Artists are carefully selected from a competitive pool of applicants by a panel of esteemed jurors. Proceeds support grants to the Smithsonian for innovative education, outreach and research projects.
