Fivestars Introduces Custom-Built Point-of-Sale Hardware to Support Small Businesses in the Post-Pandemic Economy

The new hardware will enhance Fivestars’ two-sided payments and marketing network for both merchants and consumers

SAN FRANCISCO – WEBWIRE

Fivestars, an integrated payment processing and marketing platform powering the largest local commerce network in the U.S., today announced its latest third-generation hardware rollout. Fivestars developed its custom-built point-of-sale (POS) system to improve the way small business merchants collect payments and conduct transactions while leveraging cutting-edge technology to support its network of over 65+ million shoppers and 14,000+ businesses.

With a post-pandemic wave of small businesses embracing digitization and new technology, Fivestars has continued to innovate during this time to aid merchants with in-store payments. Its new custom-built countertop third-generation hardware has a minimum lifespan of 5-7 years, outliving other in-store tablets’ typical 18-month shelf life. The device additionally enables merchants to seamlessly upgrade to Fivestars’ integrated payments platform.

The new modular device’s core stand is designed to run Fivestars’ marketing software and easily accommodate a front-facing card reader base to transform the unit into a Fivestars Pay-enabled terminal. The custom-built hardware also allows merchants to make environment changes more feasible with built-in temperature controls that are suited for indoor or outdoor use, as well as an increased sturdiness of the device itself.

“Our new hardware allows merchants to navigate effective payment solutions with ease,” said Ricardo Espinoza-Ibarra, Senior Manager of Hardware Engineering at Fivestars. “To better service customers, we’ve created a hardware device that seamlessly allows the classic Fivestars loyalty product to be converted into a payment product for a more memorable and accessible transaction experience.”

Fivestars’ custom-built hardware includes several new features, such as:

  • A larger 10-inch touchscreen
  • Built-in temperature control for indoor and outdoor usage
  • Built-in Near-Field Communication (NFC)
  • Programmable LED lights to guide customers through payment transaction steps
  • Reduced installation limitations with printer and register connectivity compatibility
  • Improved and stable connectivity options with built-in Ethernet and stronger WiFi radio for network resilience

Fivestars’ latest hardware arrives as omnichannel communications and technologies become increasingly vital to small business success. Amid a global pandemic, small business merchants have shifted their priorities to offer their customers new resources and experiences. With a history of innovation around CRM solutions and payment technology, Fivestars has solved for pain points in the hardware market that will improve in-store experiences, customer loyalty and businesses’ bottom lines.
