“My Mother’s Front Porch: And Other Plays” are made up of five different titles:

“Staying Connected” reveals the subtle but overwhelming change brought about by the development of technology, and how these affected the older generations who were unprepared for it.
 
“8^th Grade Reunion” Annie and Drew travel together to meet their classmates in 8th Grade Reunion. When the group relives some of their happiest times, Annie learns of the death of her first love. On their drive home she confesses to Drew that she, like him, has a “touch of cancer,” and they promise one another to stay in touch and face the future with thumbs up.
 
“Brooklyn Rx” is a romantic comedy celebrating the old Park Slope neighborhood.  Stores are small, friendly placesand the local drug store is hub of activity twelve hours a day.  Pharmacist Harvey’s love of recorded opera music washes over medicines, cosmetics and customers alike. An aspiring young singer meets the young widow behind the sales counter, and the age old story begins again.
 
“Sister Spirit” as Chaplain on Rikers Island, 60 year old Sister Maria learns first hand from young drug mules Sonia and Janet of the death threats to their families which led to their trafficking. She learns that they are among the many young, incarcerated offenders advised to enter guilty pleas or face 15 to 25 year prison sentences.  And she learns that she must overcome her own timidity and fear to reach and persuade legislators to repeal the Rockefeller Drug laws. 
 
The author shares these stories to touch lives no matter which part of the world you are in. From a children’s pride for their parents to an inspiring society shaping a happy life to the simple and daily lives of people fighting for the good of mankind, every page of her plays is worth the read.

About the Author:
 
Mimi Gisolfi D’Aponte is a professor emerita of Theatre at the CUNY Graduate School and Baruch College where she received the 1998 Baruch College Excellence Award for Distinguished Teaching. D’Aponte is the translator of Theater Neapolitan Style: Five One-Act Plays by Eduardo De Filippo (FDU Press 2004) which received the Italian Government’s Translation Prize in 2006, and the editor of Seventh Generation: An Anthology of Native American Plays (Theatre Communications Group 1999).
 
D’Aponte’s plays have reached many audiences. “Staying Connected” was presented as a staged reading at NYU’s Casa Italiana in 2008.  “8^th Grade Reunion” received a first reading by the Valley Players in Waitsfield, Vermont in 2008 and a fully staged reading at NYC’s Players Club in 2010. “Sister Spirit” was presented at the Oratory Church of St. Boniface in Brooklyn in 2012.  In 2016 Good Neighbors of Park Slope sponsored a staged reading of “Brooklyn Rx.”
