Startup made easy: Siemens showcases its full RFID portfolio at CeBIT 2007

Munich, Feb 16, 2007 - At this year’s CeBIT, Siemens will be the only company offering a full range of RFID products and services from a single source. This comprehensive portfolio will make it easier for companies to launch their RFID solutions and help lower their investment costs. The three Siemens Groups Automation and Drives (A&D), Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) and Siemens IT Solutions and Services will showcase their joint offering in Hall 6, Booth C40/E3-5.

Many companies have been using RFID successfully for many years, but there are still some that see its benefits but have yet to jump into the water. One of the reasons for their hesitation is the fact that they are often left to their own devices once the RFID solution has been introduced, as they are unable to find an IT provider to operate it ― or at least not the same provider who developed the solution in the first place. In such situations, users are reluctant to go to the bother of working with more than one provider or to run the solution themselves and thus run up steeper initial investment costs than they had counted on.

Siemens has recognized these initial difficulties and put together a complete package of RFID services from a single source under the name “AutoID Services”. From providing consulting services and implementing the entire hardware and software to linking them to the customer’s overall IT system and operating the solution with 24-hour help desk support — Siemens does it all. And with Siemens delivering and operating the complete solution, the customer pays only for what he actually “uses”, i.e. based on the volume of data transmitted.

With more than 300,000 read/write devices installed, Siemens is the RFID market leader in Europe. The company also supplies the necessary transponders (or tags) and software — ranging from RFID middleware to application software for a wide range of industries.

At this year’s CeBIT, Siemens will focus on the consumer goods, automobile, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and container logistics industries. Among the RFID examples on display will be exhibits from BMW and the logistics services provider of the Premiere television network.

Siemens AG (Berlin and Munich) is a global powerhouse in electrical engineering and electronics. The company has around 475,000 employees (incl. discontinued operations) working to develop and manufacture products, design and install complex systems and projects, and tailor a wide range of services for individual requirements. Founded more than 155 years ago, the company focuses on the areas of Information and Communications, Automation and Control, Power, Transportation, Medical, and Lighting.
