Juganu’s Disinfecting Light Technology Helps Tel Aviv’s Sourasky Medical Center Overcome Hospital-Acquired Infections

Smart lighting company Juganu announced today the installation of its patented J. Protect lighting technology in Tel Aviv’s Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov Hospital) to help combat the facility’s healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs). J. Protect is the world’s first indoor lighting system that safely inactivates up to 99.9% of pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2 – the virus that causes COVID-19. 

HCAIs have long been an obstacle for healthcare facilities around the world. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) even found that HCAIs, from all types of microorganisms like bacteria and fungi, cause or contribute to over 98,000 deaths each year in the U.S. alone. To help overcome HCAIs in their facilities, the Sourasky Medical Center is installing Juganu’s J. Protect technology in its Imaging and Radiology Departments – two contamination hotspots for medical facilities due to their high foot traffic and patient turnover. 

The J. Protect system has two disinfection modes: Allegro, which is continuous and can be used while people are present in a room; and Presto, which is used to disinfect an area within minutes once empty. The Sourasky Medical Center will specifically use J. Protect’s Presto solution to disinfect spaces and medical equipment surfaces in multiple CT imaging rooms and an ultrasound room, between patient occupancies. This will also provide healthcare professionals a simple, user-friendly solution while reducing the costly labor time and safety concerns that come with more manual processes such as chemical disinfection.
