Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation Elects Lisa Baker to Board of Trustees

NEW YORK, NY – WEBWIRE

Lisa Baker was elected as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation at the May 2021 board meeting. Chair William L. Mack and President Wendy Fisher said, “Lisa is a dedicated leader in the arts, with years of experience as an advocate for artists. As a member of the Photography Committee and the International Director’s Council, Lisa has shared our commitment to care for and expand the museum’s collection, especially in contemporary art and new media. We look forward to working together as she assumes this new role of trustee.”

Lisa founded the BakerIE (Baker International Exhibits), a nonprofit organization focused on supporting artists in the creation and production of large-scale projects, in 2007. The BakerIE has produced works in conjunction with artists James Turrell, Bob Whitman, and Leo Villareal, among others. Several BakerIE projects are now on exhibit at, in the collection of, or have benefited museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, and the Guggenheim Museum. Additionally, she has often mentored emerging artists, helping to develop their careers by providing housing, funding, and exhibition opportunities.

Lisa is a graduate of the University of Vermont, Burlington. She serves on several boards and committees, including the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University, Board and Photography Committee and the Columbia University Irving Medical Center Board of Advisors. In 2018, she was appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo as a member of the New York State Council of the Arts.
