The book revolves around the lives of two characters who find themselves boxed in complicated scenarios that would require them to take a stand between right and wrong. A student at Robert E. Lee Academy in Virginia, Lucas Bradshaw is a black teen known for his athletic prowess. When he is involved in a school shooting, Lucas is forced to flee to Pennsylvania where he enrols in Bloomington High School. Hoping to start a new life in the North, Lucas is unaware he is being tracked by Virginia authorities.

Jeremiah Willis is, in simple terms, a runaway; but who he’s running away from is another story. Young and defiant, Jeremiah chooses to leave Arrowhead Mountain and its notorious mountain clan, enrolling instead in Bloomington High School where he meets Lucas. They soon bond together, creating a coalition to survive against the anger, hatred, and violence that followed them.

About the Author:
Michael Fields has a BS/Ed from Edinboro University (PA) and an MA/English from the University of Dayton. As a Peace Corps teacher in Southeast Asia, the author met John Steinbeck (1967), who was covering the Vietnam War for the Philadelphia Inquirer. The 1962 Nobel Prize recipient related to the author that every man of energy has the need, using his mind and imagination, “to have something that wasn’t there before.” Motivated by this statement, Michael wrote often and created a fictional Grey Night “that wasn’t there before.” This Grey Night is replete with hatred, violence, and sudden tragedy. As they encounter deadly threats daily, Jeremiah and Lucas combat the Grey Night with only two weapons – an unwavering faith in family and friends.
