Michael Spögler 2nd at Tiroler Mountain Championships

The traditional Gerlosberg race over 6 km with 600 meters in altitude - the facts of the tyrolean mountain championships 2021. This year the field of participants contained a huge number of professionals road cyclist. Spögler was therefore extremely motivated to finally start the 2021 racing season under such conditions. After a top performance, the 2 meter tall team corratec captain finished 2nd behind the professional Florian Lipowitz.

“Late, but earlier than expected, my first race of the season was on the program today: a short and crisp mountain race in the Zillertal. 6 kilometers and 600 meters in altitude had to be mastered. As always with such short races, it is extremely important to warm up well. But especially for me, as I know that I always need a little longer for my engine to reach operating temperature. Due to the regulatory requirements, the field had to be divided into 2 blocks. I started in the 2nd block, but most of the favorites were already in the first block. Nevertheless, I just concentrated on my own performance and went right from the start a very constant rhythm. At the finish I was very satisfied with my performance, especially because it was the first real test after 8 months of training. Overall, it was enough for second place in the end, 17 seconds behind professional Florian Lipowitz. Unfortunately, due to the different starting blocks, it was not possible to race man against man. Nevertheless, we were both able to undercut the previous course record. Compliments to the organizer for the perfect organized event.”
