Barcelona, February 13, 2007 — At the 3GSM World Congress 2007, Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU), in partnership with Iberbanda, will give visitors their first taste of universal WiMAX in the 3.5GHz band, at Alcatel-Lucent’s hospitality suite.

Visitors will be able to experience nomadic WiMAX in real-life operating conditions using PCs equipped with PCMCIA cards, providing wireless broadband Internet connection and real-time access to various services, such as web browsing, video streaming and Voice over IP.

Iberbanda is making its 3.5GHz frequency band available during the congress, making this demonstration possible with Alcatel-Lucent’s WiMAX 802.16e-2005 solution. This demonstrates that Alcatel-Lucent’s WiMAX solution is available today, which will be appreciated by a large number of operators who hold a license in this frequency band, one of the most widely used in Europe and elsewhere in the world.

“Thanks to its mastery of the entire range of radio technologies, Alcatel-Lucent is best positioned to help its customers evolve towards broadband wireless communications. WiMAX is a key part of our radio access strategy,” said Philippe Keryer, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s GSM/W-CDMA/WiMAX activities.

Alcatel Lucent’s universal WiMAX offering is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard (also called Rev-e), and is now commercially available. It represents an economical and effective solution for all operators who want to provide broadband services in areas with limited or no coverage or want to expand their current offers with broadband mobile services. WiMAX will make it possible for them to extend their service offering to a larger number of subscribers and offer them a variety of useful new services accessible throughout the world from any mobile terminal.

Alcatel-Lucent is a pioneer of WiMAX technology and one of the world leaders in this domain. At present more than 40 operators throughout the world deploy its WiMAX equipment.
