California Companies and Communities Participate in Building Safety Month

The month of May is recognized as Building Safety Month in California and across the United States. The theme this year is “Prevent, Prepare, Protect. Building Codes Save Lives" The event is sponsored and supported by the nonprofit International Code Council (ICC) and its many partners.

Each week in May, a different component of building safety is highlighted to educate people about what it takes to create safer and more resilient communities. Areas of focus include energy and innovation, training the next generation, and disaster preparedness. It also includes the importance of water safety, efficiency, and protecting building water systems from contamination, and includes backflow prevention and safeguarding building water systems from microorganisms such as Legionella, a causative agent of Legionnaires’ disease, and Pontiac fever.

“This year’s event has taken on special importance due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has impacted communities all across California and around the world,” said Joseph Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at LA Testing. “Countless schools, universities, government buildings, places of worship, and businesses were temporarily closed across the state of California, and building safety is more important now than ever.
