The Jungles of Vietnam Through the Eyes of a Frontline Officer

Mesa, AZ – WEBWIRE

Blasts roars disrupting the silence from inside the Vietnam jungle. Shouts of pain and agonizing terror echoes throughout the canopies. The warmth of napalms embraces trees and vanquishes the coolness of the shades. Medivac propellers choreograph a synchronized dance among the rice paddies while fatally wounded soldiers are being transported in an attempt to save their lives. The War that had transpired in Vietnam over half a century ago, was a nightmare only some had experienced and known.

Within the booby trapped, muddy, and leech and mosquito infested jungles of Vietnam, a heroic frontline officer of I Corp, Infantry, narrates his struggles to keep as many of his men alive as possible. In his fast-paced, heart racing, and signature screenplay-style book, George Papa offers a recollection that narrates the Vietnam War with full-on transparency.

Lt. Papa’s, “The Vietnam Jungle Speaks,” is a memoir that recounts the bad, the worse, the ugly, and occasionally downright good and funny memories of the North and South Vietnam civil war. Through his screenplay style of writing, the readers are afforded a more immersive reading experience. It accentuates the details and gives a point-of-view perspective that drags the reader from the edge of their seats and into the trenches of a war-torn Vietnam. From the book we can learn what went on in Saigon, Washington, Hanoi, up and down Highway One, in Da Nang, Chu Lai, Hue, and A Shau Valley.

The book is also in memoriam for the husbands, sons, brothers, uncles and fathers, who got caught within the crossfire of civil religious war between the majority Buddhists and the minority but corrupt and controlling Catholic regime.

Lt. Papa will surely ignite a fervent fire in the heart of every reader in this one-of-a-kind account on bravery, and blind patriotism.

About the Author:

George Papa got yanked into the vortex of the Vietnam War just before he got married, at age 24. He quicky rose through the ranks, and two years later, he was commissioned as an officer in the infantry. This book tells what it was like to be a foot soldier in the jungle of Vietnam. Some things were tragic, some things were downright funny. In any event, after going through two actual search and destroy missions with Lt. Papa and his platoon of hardened and sometimes disgusted troops, no reader will ever be the same again. Bear in mind, all of these soldiers got thrown together from all walks of life, which included rich playboys to street-wise ’hoods- who all saw no reason to be there - but who somehow all came together in that crucible of shocking history. Fifty-seven thousand of their names are now chiseled in granite on a vast memorial wall.
