MyYogaTeacher Taps the Positive Power of Yoga to Send Oxygen to Those Suffering from COVID in India

Company launches program to donate one meal to a child for every student who enrolls in the popular Yoga with Friends feature that delivers live, on-demand, customized group lessons to friend groups but shifts first weeks of campaign to focus on immediate pandemic need in India

CUPERTINO, Calif. – WEBWIRE

MyYogaTeacher, the company bringing on-demand, live yoga into people’s homes with expert teachers, today announces that it will donate one meal to a child for every student who enrolls in its popular Yoga with Friends feature in partnership with GiveIndia, India’s largest and most trusted donation platform. In response to the current COVID-related crisis in India, the company is focusing the first weeks of the campaign on sending oxygen to help those suffering from the widespread shortages.

“Our members form a remarkably thoughtful and caring community,” says Jitendra Gupta, MyYogaTeacher’s CEO and co-founder. “This program, anchored to one of our most popular features, is an ideal way to channel that into real-world help for those in need.”

India is posting record death tolls related to the coronavirus with nearly 3,700 every 24 hours. MyYogaTeacher originally partnered with GiveIndia to provide meals for hungry children in India but temporarily changed focus to offer Oxygen Drive classes in response to the pressing need for oxygen and ventilators.

As the COVID surge eases, the company will resume its initial focus on providing meals for children.

The sad truth is that over 300,000 children die from starvation every year in India despite huge gains in individual wealth and the country outpacing the rest of Asia in the growth of high-net-worth individuals. GiveIndia was founded in 2008 as a platform to connect contributions from corporations and individual donors to over 1,250 nonprofits working directly to feed and provide other services to those in need.

Yoga for Good
MyYogaTeacher is an app that streams live, interactive, 1on1 and group lessons from the most experienced yoga teachers on the planet - direct from India - to students in the U.S. The company’s Yoga with Friends feature lets users stay connected to their social circle by setting up custom, on-demand classes and inviting friends to take interactive classes together with a teacher of their choosing.

Here’s how it works:
Friend #1 selects a teacher and time for the class, then invites friends to join the live, custom session.

Friends #2 - #20 accept the invitation and join the live, interactive class from their own homes.

Each YwF session costs around $5 - $12.5 depending on the size of the group. As more people join, the rate per attendee goes down towards $5.

MyYogaTeacher donates one meal to GiveIndia for every person who joins any YwF session (about 2,000 meals per month at current levels)

Students can choose from dozens of teachers who are doctors of yoga, yoga therapists, and teachers with over 900 hours of training and decades of experience. Students can also choose nearly every type of yoga and schedule 1-on-1 sessions that fit into their schedules.

MyYogaTeacher is available for download at the App Store and Google Play. Classes are taught live via interactive, streaming video and the app lets students track their progress with a personalized roadmap.

Unlimited group classes start at $29/mo and Yoga with Friends and 1-on-1 sessions are available for about $20 each with monthly packages available, too.
