JBS Foods Canada to Invest $300,000 to Build Houses in Brooks as Part of Hometown Strong Initiative

In October 2020, JBS Foods Canada announced a $2 million investment in Brooks, Alberta, Canada, to support the community’s future through the JBS Hometown Strong program. The company has been working with local leaders and organizations to determine how the funds can best help meet immediate and longer-term community needs.

In partnership with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta, JBS will provide $300,000 to help build an affordable duplex in Brooks. Two local families will have the opportunity to buy these homes with no down payment and no interest, and their mortgage payments will help fund future Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta projects.

“This is an important investment that will serve the Brooks community for generations to come,” said David Colwell, president, JBS Foods Canada. “JBS Canada is grateful for our partnership with Habitat for Humanity and the ability to give back to our neighbors in a meaningful way.”

“At Habitat for Humanity, we believe that every family should have access to affordable home ownership,” said Gerrad Oishi, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. “Thanks to the support of partners like JBS Foods Canada, we will be able to make home ownership a reality for two local families in Brooks. We’re so grateful for JBS’ commitment to building strong communities.”

The JBS Foods Canada Brooks production facility employs more than 2,800 people with an annual payroll of more than $110 million. The beef facility supports more than 500 local producers, paying them $1.6 billion per year for their livestock.

Hometown Strong is a $50 million initiative that adds to commitments JBS has made to protect employees and ensure their job security amid the global pandemic. Funds are being directed to the communities where JBS team members live and work in the U.S. and Canada. Hometown Strong is one of the largest community investment programs of its kind.
